First off, I am a HUGE gamer, and finding a decent enough laptop that can handle new games with ease for a price easy on the pocket is definitely difficult. This, my friends, is probably the best one you could find. My old laptop I bought 3 years ago and had for 2-and-a-half years was an HP Pavilion dv7 that was one of the higher-end models for about $1100. It worked very well, even with an integrated video card, but after having it replaced 4 times under the warranty, I decided it was time to move on. I searched high and low, and was originally going to buy the now top of the line dv7 model, but figured I couldn't afford it. Then, I found this one, and I just knew it was perfect.

Took me a long time to search to internet for a good a8-3500 laptop. This was the best one for the value and 100$ off of retail as well. Some things to consider. 1.Energy efficiency 11w idle - 20 average docs,webs, bursts to 60w load i think. 2.High end video card HD 6750M/6620g almost rated class 1 but rated at top of classs 2 [class 1 cards usually 1000$ range higher] and its 1600x900 resolution. Now thats nice combo, while others are lower resolution. This is by FAR best graphics+ resolution + efficient processor. 3. Plays lot modern games on High settings. 4. Amd cata suite says crossfire mode, havnt really messed with it. Laptop has sticker that says as well. 5. Battery lasts long anywhere from 2-9 hours depending on tasks. Games usually tend to drain battery in all laptops. Cons 1. Vga+hdmi TOO CLOSE together cant run 2 monitors. Just bought for dual monitor with extra usb monitor total of 3. Great laptop for the money. The specs are more than enough for the average user. The laptop power settings make it incredibly simple to manage your power correctly for whatever tasks you need to complete. There wasn't a bunch of junk software loaded on the machine and the beats audio is fantastic, you won't find better laptop speakers. I've just begun to really findout every feature of the laptop and am extremely satisfied with my purchase
My one and only pet peeve about this machine is the awkward battery shape, its great for setting it on a desk or table, but it is a little weird when the laptop's on your lap

Now that I've had this computer for a few months, I'd like to modify my review. This computer has randomly shut down about 10 times now, a dozen blue screens of death related to USB 3. This is a very fast laptop. I'm a computer programmer that needs a very fast machine for pretty much everything I do, and this laptop is awesome. This machine as it is listed has great upgraded options, like the best resolution screen, blu-ray, extra battery, and extra RAM, however, the hard drive it comes with is very slow. This laptop does have a 2nd hard drive bay and I bought the 225$ 128GB Kingston SSD, made it my primary drive, then made the original drive my secondary drive. I ordered this for my wife and it arrived on time and build quality was flawless. The keyboard is outstanding and the aluminum case all the way down to the illiminated HP logo is magnificent. This is the first HP laptop I've purchased (I've had 11 in my lifetime inlcuding the 21 inch Dragon Laptop) that has really impressed me. I reviewed many laptops prior to this purchase at the Apple Store and Fry's and found this to be the most well rounded desktop replacement. This machine far outshines the 17 inch MacBook Pro e.g. built in slot loading Blu-ray, Two batteries that you can remove (shame on you Apple), and an outstanding keyboard "with numeric keypad" (shame on you Apple). I highly recommend this device to anyone looking for a desktop replacement.

I did a lot of research before I bought the Envy 17. This laptop is everything I hoped it would be. Very fast on all my apps. I usually run multiple apps and I've never noticed any lag at all. The keyboard is the best I've ever used and the backlighting is awesome. I was a little worried about the touch paid because I read some reviews that were critical of it. I actually like it quite a bit. It's bigger than I'm used to and very responsive. No problems with the buttons at all. The screen is really bright and clear. Movies are beautiful on this box. I use this as more of a desktop replacement so it's ussually plugged in. I can't really speak to the battery perofrmance. I will note that mine came with both a small (6 cell) battery and a bigger (9 cell) battery. Overall, this is the best computer I've ever owned and I love it.

post-review edit: after owning this laptop for 2 months, I've come to be very disappointed with the headphone jack. It's terrible quality and it takes great effort to find a position where it transmits sound to both ears. If it's sitting in place it's bearable, but if it's in my lap and I so much as tap my leg, the sound jumps in and out. It makes listening to music on the go unbearable. Deducted one star for it. At $800 (I bought it for $700 from amazon and have seen lower), I would not buy this laptop today. ---------
I bought this laptop about a week ago as a replacement for my MacBook from '10. I'm an engineering student and I got tired of the incompatibility of OS X with the majority of my CAD & engineering software. I was looking for a lightweight laptop with quality construction that would be able to run programs like SolidWorks and play HD video--no games. With this laptop, I found exactly what I was looking for.

Love this laptop, using it to write this review. I got it because we recently started started going paperless at work and wanted my own notebook to carry with me and do my work. Its absoultely perfect for the job. Most people notice the aesthetics first, its a very attractive machine. Even though the series 3 is the budget series of Samsung, this notebook does not feel cheap in any way. The next thing people notice is the weight and size. It's got the same form factor as an 11.5 inch laptop thanks to Samsung's trademark thin bezels, so you get more screen for the same form factor. The weight is perfect, i carry it around with me all day without problems. Also like the keyboard, its a full sized keyboard with chiclet keys. Also has arrow buttons, which is a huge plus for me. With a full version of Windows 7 and the horsepower of the i5 and 4GB RAM, it runs better and smoother than any other laptop Ive ever owned. Overall, a great purchase for a great price. i am a freelance graphic designer and primarily use this notebook to take to client meetings to give them progress reports (secondary use is pretty much all internet). while this computer is not powerful enough to substitute for a desktop when using programs like illustrator and photoshop, it does run these programs well enough for my purposes (haven't really noticed significant lag time...maybe a bit with 20+ layers open but nothing ridiculous). these are pretty much the only programs i run on the computer besides office; i haven't started any new projects using this computer but i do make adjustments to projects that i have already started on my desktop and this computer handles that really well. now for the pros and cons:
PROS: * super light - i'm a pretty small person and a couple pounds can make a huge difference when i'm carrying something around all day. at just about 3 pounds this notebook is hardly noticeable in my bag.
